Careers Talk on Discipline Forces

Form 4 Careers Talk on Discipline Forces was held today during the 7th and 8th periods. We were honoured to have our old boys Mr Chan Chi-Kin (Immigration Department) , Mr Brendan Lim (Hong Kong Police Force) and Mr Kwok Chi-Kwan (Fire Services Department), to provide information and share their career experience. The careers team would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for their presence today.

2009 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows

Our Wind Band has captured the Gold Prize in the Symphonic Band Contest - Intermediate of the 2009 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows. The team members would like to express their gratitude to their teacher advisors, Mr Christian Wan, Mr Jim Sin, Ms Sina Lo, and their conductor, Mr Ngai Lung Shing, for their invaluable guidance and support.

2009 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows

Our Chinese Orchestra has captured the Gold Prize in the Chinese Orchestra Contest (31-90members) of the 2009 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows. The team members would like to thank their teacher advisors, Mr Christian Wan, Mr Fong Kai Io, and their conductor, Mr Ng Chiu Shing, for their invaluable guidance and support.

Form Assembly

The Guidance Team organised a talk on 'The Key to Success' ( 成功人生 ) for F. 3 and F. 4 students on 7th December 2009.

We cordially invited Professor Wong Kin Yuen, the Chief Strategy Officer of the Becoming-Infoledge Management, and Dr. Lam Koo Kit, the Clinical Instructor of the School of Chinese Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to be the guest speakers.

The presentation was impressive and the responses were overwhelming. Participants could master the skills needed to succeed.

Annual Speech Day

Our Annual Speech Day was held in our School Hall today. It was our pleasure to have invited Rev Bro David Hawke, F.S.C, General Councillor for the Pacific-Asia Region, as our guest of honour.

Graduates and outstanding students received their certificates from our guest of honour and school managers. At the end of the ceremony, Rev. Bro David Hawke gave us an enlightening speech.

Form 4 Assembly

The Civic Education Team had organised a Form Assembly for the F.4 students on 17th November 2009.

Speaker from the Police Department, Mr. Lam had briefed the students on the topic "Legal Concerns of Drug Abuse".

He also encouraged the students to ask and answer questions on the topic during the Q&A sessions.

Before the assembly ended, Mr. Lam also introduced the relevant websites and hot lines to our students for further information about "Drug Abuse".

Form 2 & 3 Assembly

the Form Assembly Team and the Civic Education Team had organised a Form Assembly on the topic "The Physical and Psychological Problems of Drug Abuse" for the F.2 and F.3 students on 23rd November 2009.

We had cordially invited Doctor Tsang Fan-kwong to be the guest speaker. Dr. Tsang is the Chairman of the Executive Committee, Institute of Mental Health, Castle Peak Hospital. As a specialist in Psychiatry, Dr Tsang is actively involving in patient care, training and supervision, research, public mental health education and administrative duties. He also speaks to different audience groups on stress management, prevention of drug abuse and building better child-parent relationship

During the assembly, Dr. Tsang had illustrated the following issues by relating examples and stories.
· The common kinds of drugs in Hong Kong
· Why and how youngsters become drug addicts?
· The health problems after taking drugs
· How to say "no" to drugs?

Sports Day

Sports Day was held in our sports grounds today. It was our pleasure to have invited Mr Mark Huang, the Vice President of our Old Boys Association, as our guest of honour.

Our boys have put in enormous efforts into the events, and several records were broken. The results are as follows:
Cheering Competition:
Junior: 1A
Senior: 3G

Class Championships:
A Grade: 5G
B Grade: 4C
C Grade: 2C
Overall: 2C


Also, the East Asian Games Torch Relay was held before the Prize Giving Ceremony. The event started with our C grade Sports Boy of the Year 2008-2009, Leo Li (3D), and finished with our Supervisor, Rev. Brother Patrick.

Winners received their prizes from our guest of honour, Mr Mark Huang, our Vice Principals, Mr Tong Wun Sing and Miss Cecilia Tang, the President of our Old Boys Association, Mr Charles Chan, as well as our Principal, Mr Wong Yen Kit.

The day was rounded up successfully after the prize giving ceremony and the school song.

Athletics Heats

The Athletics Heats was successfully held on the resurfaced track and field today. Athletes were striving for the qualification to enter the finals. Students from different classes participated in the Class Slogan Cheering Competition and cheering for the athletes.

Moreover, some of the events are scheduled as follows:

Homecoming of the Class of 69

The Old Boys of the Class of 69 came back and visited their Alma Mater today. A school tour was arranged and they enjoyed the stay very much. The trip reminded them of their old days back in La Salle.

We are honoured and privileged to have Ms. Zhang Ping, gold medalist of 2004 Olympic Games, to coach our school volleyball team. It is an invaluable and precious opportunity for us to meet this experienced national team member. All of us learnt special tactics and techniques which are very useful. The school volleyball team would like to thank Mr Horace Hui for organizing this occasion. In addition, we would also like to show our sincere gratitude to Rev. Bro. Patrick, Principal Mr. Wong Yen Kit and vice principals for their guidance and support.

Talk on Overseas Studies

The careers team would like to thank two old boys, Mr. Kenward Ma (1994) and Mr. Gideon Ho (1994) for giving a talk on studying in UK and US. They shared with F.5-F.7 students their experience on choosing colleges, preparing college applications and characteristics of different universities in UK and US.

English Arena

Today was the first English Arena for this year. Four boys from 5F shared their views and concerns about hot topics that currently affect the youth on Hong Kong. Comments were given by Mr Addison and book vouchers were presented to the speakers by our principal, Mr. Wong. English Arena will be held in the garden on Thursdays at 12:30pm.

Annual Swimming Gala

The Annual Swimming Gala was held in our swimming pool today. It was our pleasure to have invited Mr Paul Law, the Old Boy Manager of our Swimming Team, as our guest of honour. Also, we would like to express our gratitude to the guest speaker from the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to give our students a talk on the Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games in the School Hall.

Our boys have put in enormous efforts in the game, and a lot of records were broken. Eventually, Form 5C captured the overall Champion in the Swimming Gala this year. Winners received their prizes from our guest of honour, Mr Paul Law, our Supervisor, Rev. Bro. Patrick, as well as our Principal, Mr Wong Yen Kit.

The day was rounded up successfully after the prize giving ceremony and the school song.

Casual Dress Day

Today was a Casual Dress Day, teachers and students enthusiastically participated in the event. Instead of their school uniform, students came to school in their favourite sports wear or casual clothes.

The donations raised will be donated to the Community Chest.

The Blood Donation Day

Today, the school hall was crowded with generous blood donors.

After the 3rd Period, many teachers and students went to the hall to donate their blood to Hong Kong Red Cross.

Clubs Promotion Fair

A 3-day Clubs Promotion Fair was held in the School Hall from 23rd to 25th September. There were 46 Clubs and Societies organized by our students. Students from different classes were able to join the clubs and societies according to their interests.

Student Association Presidential Election

The Presidential Election of Student Association 2009-10 was held today. The Presidential Election Committee announced that there had been no violation of rules and regulations nor major complaints reported. The election, from promotion to voting, has been conducted in an orderly, fair, and respectful manner.

The result of the election is as follows:

Johnny Chang and his cabinet : 845 votes
Sam Luk and his cabinet : 367 votes
Void: 46

The appeal period will last until 15th Sept Tuesday. The Inauguration Ceremony will be held on 17th Sept Thursday in the School Hall.

The Steering Committee would like to thank the Presidential Election Committee for their hard work throughout the election period and all students for their participation. It has been a good civic educaiorn lesson for all.

Teachers' Day 2009

In recognition of all the teachers' hard work in helping to develop and nurture children, 10th September is regarded as International Teachers' Day.

Today, students from different classes posted up their Teachers' Day Greeting Cards at the Main Entrance in order to express their heartfelt thanks to their teachers for their marvelous work and commitment to students.

School Commencement Assemblies 2009-2010

The School Commencement Assemblies 2009-2010 were held for F.1 to F.3 and F.4 to F.7 classes on 3rd and 4th September 2009 respectively.
The Major School Focuses of this academic year:

Facilitating a Smooth Migration to New Senior Secondary Curriculum,
Enhancing Students' Language Ability,
Promoting Moral Education,
Improving Student Discipline, and
Nurturing Student Learning Diversity

were introduced by Rev. Brother Patrick in his warm welcome speech, and were further remarked by Mr. Wong Yen Kit, Principal.
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Charles Chan, the President of the OBA and Dr. Steven Wong, Vice Chairman of the PTA for being our guests as well as their encouraging speeches.

Summer Bridging Programme 2009

The Summer Bridging Programme for all Form 1 newcomers was sucessfully held last week (17-22 Aug 2009). With the help of teachers, parent helpers and student helpers, students attended lessons and used the facilities of our school.

We also collaborated with the Chemistry Department of the Hong Kong Baptist University to conduct a Science Workshop for our students.

We would like to express our gratitude to our parent helpers, student helpers, teachers, Prof Chan Wing Hong and student helpers from HKBU for their help and support during the programme.

Staff Development Day and Farewell Lunch

The Third Staff Development Day was on 6th July. After the meeting, staff gathered at the Kowloon Tsai House Owners Association to bid farewell to Bro Joseph, our Vice-principal, Mr Jospeh Chung, our Chinese teacher, Mr Wong Kwan Yau, our English teachers, Mr Gary Wong as well as the canteen owner, Mr Chan Yiu Tak. During the lunch, our Principal, Mr Wong Yen Kit, expressed his gratitude for the contributions they have made to our school. Also, our Supervisor, Bro. Patrick, and our alternative supervisor, Mr Nicholas Ng, presented souvenirs to those leaving.

Sports Prize Giving Ceremony

The Sports Prize Giving Ceremony was held in the school hall during the 4th to 6th periods. It was our honour to invite the President of the LSCOBA, Mr. Charles Chan, to be our guest of honour.
 
The prize winners of interclass and interschool competitions received their prizes from our sports conveners as well as our honourable guests.
 

At the end of the ceremony, Au Yeung Chun Yu(7D) presented the Bauhinia Bowl (the 1st runner up) to our Supervisor, Brother Patrick.  Also, our Principal, Mr Wong Yen Kit, presented a souvenir to our Vice-principal, Mr Joseph Chung, who will retire after this academic year, in order to express our gratitude to his contribution to the school and in sports activities.  The ceremony ended with overwhelming applause for Mr Josph Chung.

Christian Brothers' Schools Exchange Program 2009

The Christian Brothers' Schools Exchange Program 2009 for Form Four students commences today. Nine representatives from Chan Sui Ki (La Salle) College and Chong Gene Hang College will attend lessons in our school, while another nine students will represent our school and visit the other Lasallian schools in Hong Kong this week. It is hoped that all students involved in the program can strengthen the sense of brotherhood with other Lasallians in our Lasallian Family. We also wish that the exchange students would enjoy their stay here at La Salle.

Lasallian Forum 2009

The Student Association is honored to have invited Professor Sydney Chung to be the keynote speaker at the Lasallian Forum 2009. The topic is " From Dream- to Goal- to Reality". Professor Chung gave an inspiring talk about how young people can actualize idealism into reality. In the forum that followed, he talked with the 7 ex-committee members about various topics, from medical system in H.K.to H1N1 Influenza, attempt to combine Chinese and Western medicine in practice, use of English in school, elitism and excellence, to his own experience in realizing dream. Professor Chung then took questions from the floor. Students threw in different questions which were met with candid and soul-searching answers. The Student Association would like to thank Professor Sydney Chung for his wonderful sharing and the enthusiastic support of students for the Forum.

The 75th Anniversary Closing Mass

The 75th Anniversary Closing Mass was held in the school hall of La Salle Primary School on 20th December 2007, we were glad to have Father Lui and Father Alex be the Celebrants. At the end of the mass, Rev. Brother Patrick, our Acting Supervisor, declared the official closing of the 75th Jubilee Celebration and also expressed his gratitude to all parties who have strongly supported the celebration throughout the year.
